The 5 tray model has a 5" fan and heating element mounted on the rear wall. Cool, dry air is sucked in through the back of the dehydrator, heated up and then evenly distributed across each tray as shown in the diagram. During the dehydration process, the warm air removes the moisture from the food and this moist air is pushed out through the front and replaced with dry air from the back. Horizontal airflow provides even drying, eliminating the need for rotation of the trays during dehydration.
Drying is fast and very little heat is lost as the Excalibur dehydrator doesn't need to be taken apart to change the tray sequence during the dehydrating process, simply remove the front door and slide out the required tray. Each tray can be removed making space for larger items such as whole fruit, casserole dishes and this height advantage over other food dehydrators makes it ideal for arts and crafts.
The case, door and trays on the Excalibur 4500 food drier are constructed of high grade polycarbonate which is virtually unbreakable. The Excalibur food dehydrator has 5 black 38 x 38 cm dishwasher safe trays with flexible mesh inserts offering 8 square feet of drying space in total.
The Adjustable thermostat has a range from 85-155 °F (29 - 68 °C) allows the Excalibur dehydrator to produce perfect drying every time of various different produce and the square tray design increases drying area over other dehydrators with round trays.
