Home > Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Regulations

The Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Regulations.

Waste electrical goods range from hairdryers to washing machines and they make up the fastest growing waste stream in the UK. The government has introduced some new regulations called The Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Regulations.

As part of the regulations, many retailers have made a financial contribution to increase and improve the number of recycling locations for electrical goods where the consumer can personally take the waste to. Others have offered to collect the goods from the consumer and recycle it for them at one of these locations. Click onto the Bank Locator to find where to recycle electrical goods near you!
  • Electrical goods are the fastest growing waste stream in the UK, growing by 5% each year
  • In the UK the amount of electrical waste we create in one year would fill the new Wembley 6 times!
  • 75% of waste electronics end up in landfill sites
  • In the lifetime of 1 UK citizen 3.3 tonnes of waste electronics is created! (weeeman.org)
  • Two million TV sets are discarded every year - most end up in landfill sites (Recycle Now)
  • 15 million mobile phones are upgraded in the UK each year, laid from end-to-end they would reach from John O’Groats to Lands End! (www.sciencemuseum.org.uk)

Juiceland Ltd. as part of the WEEE scheme, offers to our UK customers to collect like for like goods when they purchase a new product from us. This means that if you are buying a new juicer, we will collect your old juicer back free of charge; this does not cover other products though, for instance we will not collect your old kettle if you are ordering a blender - only like for like items are included.

Some other retailers are only donating monies to a scheme which allows them to NOT have to collect goods from their customers and we believe this action only encourages the consumer to carry on disposing of their electrical items the way they have always done.

Before considering getting Juiceland Ltd. to collect though, please consider the following: "Over six million electrical items are thrown away every year in the UK. It is estimated that over half of them are still working or could easily be repaired." (ITDG, 2003). We do not want to contribute to landfill unnecessarily and it will be unlikely that we will be able to check over every item before sending it to the recycling centre.

Therefore, if your product is in fully working order, consider giving it to a friend, local charity or some organisation you know of who would benefit from such a donation, for example a local school or youth club. Otherwise, please click here for a list of organisations that can make use of electrical goods that are in working order and will collect them from you.

If your item is faulty, it may still be of use to someone who can make repairs on electronic items but more than likely it has reached the end of its usable life. In this instance, please consider either taking it to your local recycling centre click here or instruct Juiceland Ltd. to arrange collection when you order a new item from us.
